Although it gets its name from France, this cute little dog's roots lead back to Nottingham, England. Women who worked in lace factories used these "lapdogs" to help keep their laps warm. When the English factores closed in the 1800s, the English women migrated to France and took their little dogs with them.
These little dogs became very popular with Paries ladies who worked in the pleasure industry. It seems that the little dogs were very good at attracting customers.
